Stone Lantern

Description

A 660 Poly Stone Lantern with 1024px Color Texture and 1024px Normal Texture. As Reference i used Images of Japanese Stone Lanterns, but i simplified it a lot. It is meant to be used as Low Poly Asset for Games or as Decoration in the Background. Have Fun with it.

If you want to use it as Game Asset i recommend to apply all 3 Modifiers before you export (or check the box in the export settings "apply all modifiers).

very good very good my question is how did you do the textures

As you can see the Mesh repeats 6 times in a circle, so it's the same for the Texture, so in only had to texture 1/6 of the whole Object. First i built a "seamless stone texture" with gimp and a Photo. Then with Knald (a free software to generate Normal maps and other stuff) i build a Normal Map. I applied the Seamless Color Texture and Seamless Normal Texture to the unwrapped mesh. I baked the textures to the UV. I also baked the Ambient Occlusion. With the baked Color Texture some transition weren't so good. So i Cloned some parts in Texture Paint mode to fix the rough transitions on some areas. Then i painted some white color (10%) on some edges to give it some used look. And finally i combined the baked Color Texture with the Ambient Occlusion Texture (with multiply). I think that were all steps :-)

Wow, reading that and understanding it made me feel really smart, thank you.

You've done a very good job on the texture. What sort of size would your example be? About 4 foot high?

Oh i actually did not thought about it hehe. But i think it's meant to be a bit smaller then a Human. so 4-5 foot (or between 1 and 1,30 meters) should be about the right size.

OK, thanks. So you didn't model it for a specific project then? Was it for the challenge of texturing or something? You were certainly successful.

I currently work for a Project which is called "Tolroko". But everytime when i wait for feedback from the Supervisor i spend some time building asian stuff, like medieval weapons, buildings, aso. So i built them for basicly no reason :-).

As good a reason as any ... :-)
