Hey, that's my AKAI tapedeck, bought in 1976. Would be worth a small fortune now, if it hadn't got ditched somewhere on the timeline toward today. Congrats on the modeling: great accuracy, except for some minor details, that are however vital for it's proper functioning. This suggests that you haven't actually ever used one yourself. Am I correct? Thanks all the same though, this really brings back memories... :)

Thank you! Really have never used or had one of these. Recently I went to visit my family, I was looking at the photo album. I found a picture that my dad took in the studio in the background image to see AKAI. I liked it, and I tried to reproduce. As you commented lacks details. I did not know the name / model, I found no reference. Thanks to you now I know. I am happy it was brought fond memories, photo album because it brought many memories.

As I did not know you could say to me. What details we missed improve?

Hi, the tapedeck that you modeled is a prerunner of the almost indecently popular AKAI 4000DS model. Have a look at these: AKAI 4000DS on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/25823827@N00/1809498444 [recorderheads uncovered](http://pvdm.xs4all.nl/blog/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Akai-4000DS-Mk-II.jpg) [spool with that very convenient center-to-edge slid for easily spanning up the tape](http://www.klaus-pohlig.de/audiohistory/minidisk+tape/akai%204000%20DS/akai%204000%20DS.jpg) or simply google-search for "AKAI tapedeck" which is what I did. Vital details are first: the 3 little wings on the spool-axis, forcing the spools to run in the same speed as they do, and notice how these are in two parts, the outer part being connected trough a small spring. This allows you to pull them out and twist a bit in order to secure the spool on the spoolholder. (Forget this and the spool would work itself free during playback and roll off into some far corner of the room) Second: The tapewide grove on the first tapeguideknob: the tape has to be steered precisely, because it has 4 "trails": one and three: stereo side one, two and four: same for "side two" when you swap the spools. If you want to know how to use this machine, then watch this [video on youtube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYEv43M_mHo) and [how to record](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hj0zbj4NxyQ) cherio. :)

I once saw something like this being used. Very fiddly. This must have been quite a nice project for you to do.
