This is a Fire Plasma Animation looking like plasma kind of there is a link to the result. It is in blender internal and I am feeling my way around. Hope it is of some use. The two objects one round and one sharp object, have three color materials.
Made Ball emitter, this with the use of Object> quick effects > quick smoke.
Rendered to OGG as file format, normally PNG is safer, can pause and restart this was sort.
Under physics tab Set flow to fire & smoke set to particles.

Did some compositing for plasma fire.
And added bonus shape to look like projectile.
