Procedural Moon

Description

A procedural moon made with blender's cycles nodes.

This blend uses the "Experimental" Render Feature-Set, to achieve a combination of bump and true displacement "Both" ; Hope some of you find this useful :)

Does this work with the regular feature set?

Yes for sure it will ! but you will then only be using bump or displacement, not true mesh displacement.

You must be some kind of procedural node god sent from Procedural Node Olympus to show us procedural node mortals how it's done.

Ha ha ! and I am only getting started ! thanks for the comment ;) ; It's nice to realize that all those endless hours spent on Blender are finally paying off...

That is the most amazing thing I've ever seen in the 3-D rendering world I really expected to see a UV map but to my amazing surprise everything done with shaders and nodes in incredible job man really really like it

Thanks a lot ! Yeah ! it's pretty cool to see what Blender-Cycles can render without having to go through the whole texturing process... Hopefully with the next Blender releases, we will have real time and true displacement with the 3D-View Editor...

Have you played Elite:Dangerous? They take kind of the same approach to generate planet and moon surfaces but in real time! With their latest update you can even land on planets and find all sorts of details and craters and so on, pretty amazing! :D

Same idea here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBYRIZA44Eg

Nope, still have not got around to playing Elite : Dangerous ; But I have been tempted to get it a few times... Who knows ?! we might be able to have such a thing in a few years if ever Blender gets revamped ! ;)

very, very impressive. If I had more clue about the node math I would be able to appreciate even more.
