360 HDRi to Blender Cube/Enviroment Maps Convertor

Description

Hey, I have been working a lot with cube maps recently.
They are easy to make, but a bit hard to set them up to be converted in the right way.
With this file you can do it very fast.

A good cube map resolution is 3072-2048. You can have bigger and smaller images as long you keep it proportional (1536-1024 ; 768-512, etc).

You just need to:

Load an HDRi;
Preview it (optional);
Bake it;
Save it;

HDRi on the example image is from: http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html

This is insanely cool, thanks for sharing. Works perfectly as described. One suggestion, add the instructions as a text file internally.

What exactly is a cube map, is that just another name for a Sky box for Blender?

No, it is not that :) A cube map is a way for you to have reflections on your object in real time (viewport, game engine) without having to use the time consuming computations of raytracers, path tracers, etc (blender internal, Cycles). Cube maps are accelerated by "modern" GPUs (anything with less then 5 years old should work), so you can have an accurate reflection (the things reflect as expected and from the right directions) in real time, no need to wait at all. All you see in my demo video "isn't rendered" (well, it is being rendered by the GPU), it's in real time :) Here a perhaps better example: https://youtu.be/xsV9Ln_TLa8
