Clerget 9B

Description

A moderately detailed radial engine for your WW1 aircraft. It is not UV'd. I have not organised the parts in a manner that makes sense. But the modeling part is done for ya! Project UVs on the front, throw a basic texture on it and take off.

I left subsurf modifiers on most of the mesh in case anyone wants to alter the low poly mesh for greater detail.

Hello I'm going to use your model as Deflector for my Federation Starship, with your permission. I did some modifications. Tipp: utilize Blenders "Mirror Modifier" for objects that are symmetrical and/or are made of identical parts^^ - can reduce work and filesize by 75% https://imgur.com/XjHJGFS

You absolutely have my permission. That thing looks amazing. I find some irony in using a 103 year old design on an intergalactic starship though. Haha! Thanks for the tip on the mirror modifier. My usual workflow is setting up for ease of duplication. In this case, you can set up objects at the center pivot of the crank case and duplicate at 40 degree angles to line everything up. Cheers!

Hi David, I don't have a channel or anything like that. But I'm happy to help out in Discord or show you what I did. Thanks for your comment!

Are you aware the clerget is not a radial engine but a rotary one? Which means these engines were entirely rotating with the propeller. Quite a sight! Very rare to see one working as they did in WW1 today. Many movies now use radials in plane replicas. If the entire engine it's NOT rotating it's not a rotary. Just saying :-)

Hey mate, Yes! I was very aware. My first short film featured a Sopwith cammel which I modeled a rotary engine for which I aniamted to spin. It's a very effective design considering it's 100 years old. I put rotary and radial in the tags because when this engine is hidden behind a cowl or at a distance, it works just as well as a radial design as it does an animated rotary one. Thanks for your comment!
