Box Thing

A model I did a long time ago for a project that never got wrapped up. Was intended to be the bad guys in an animation. These guys were intended to "bobble" about in groups like jellyfish, casually moving but grabbing up all they could with their tentacles. The model is fully rigged and constrained, however, the rig is a bit rough and the IK spline doesn't always update as you move the armature target points, but if you tab into the mesh and back out it will update. The boxes for each of the legs is a switch from the tentacles stretching to the target vs. not stretching.

This is an interesting concept. Would you mind telling us a bit about the project and how these lil' critters were used in it?
Sure. The big pieces were going to be as follows: Eiffel - [ http://blenderartists.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=119061&d=1288457898 ] Environment - [ http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/5966/wideset.png ] Music - [ http://www.jamendo.com/en/track/252224 ] Dragon Dance by Butterfly Tea It has a CC license but I was still planning to work to this score and then contact them prior to final run down. The idea was that Eiffel is happy on her island with her ball. Then these Box Things would start floating up and stealing her ball, trying to flee with it (or package it). This would go on for the first half of the music score until the mood changes (second half). Then Eiffel would snap to it and start heroically bobbing about on the Box things retrieving her ball, twarting off the Box Things and safely returning to her island. The Box Things were largely influenced by the Electric Company's Music Man (silent e) video [ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2dpYVfhHRw ] and were going to move in much of the same way.
