I'm working on a ship of my own right now! Fantastic work, and thanks for the model to compare :)

Those ropes are all waaay to straight :) Maybe add a slight bow to each one to simulate weight and wind and it will help it not look like a plastic toy. Great modeling job! The lighting and scene setup is not the most interesting to me, but everyone has their own definition of good aesthetics :)

As you can see in .blend file the ropes are simple lines beetween two points of pinning. But to receive a curves, or even ropes falling on the wind i suggest subdivide them few times and then throw at this some sofbody. The places of pinning of ropes to the ship should be used as a pinning to the softbody. Then we receive the rope, which reacts on the wind. Nennoknight: I currently have one more ship to finish on my PC. "La Couronne" If you want to, i'll finish it quickly so you'll have one more ship to compare :) Thanks for all your comments.
