As a self proclaimed pacifist I must say: guns are just plain cool (as long as you don't aim at living things). Shooting range is the best leisure time ever. Although I have thoughts similar to yours when it comes to cars ;P
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bring a downer on good modelling whatever it is :) It just seems odd to me that the first thing new modellers start to create is guns. I guess it's the game industrys fault, with all the military themed stuff that influences. Personally though I do love a bit of Gears of War.
A lot of stuff in 3D I agree is cliche, even cars as Yazjack said, like my VW Golf for instance. I think though when you've seen one gun, you've kinda seen them all - they all look the same to me and unless you want to make a game, they just don't appeal to me personaly.
Now if somone was to stick in a flower in the end of the nozzle, that'd be cool and make a statement at the same time - I think I'm just an old hippy ;)

Just a quick question, why do so many guns appear here in blendswap? You'd think we were all at war or something - I just don't get it :(
