Description
Experimenting with a glass lens and a pinhole
The scene consists of
* a motive (the emitting smiley)
* a half reflective mirror (in the middle) splitting the light into one part continuing horizontally and one part going upwards
* a glass lens refracting the horizontal part of the light and focusing the motive on the screen to the left
* a 'pinhole' camera on top catching some of the vertical light and showing the motive on a translucent screen.
The purpose of creating this scene was simply to test if I could get a sharp projection of the motive through a lens.

its nice! but u only showed us the scene, why not also show us the result of this " Experiment with Optics " ? if u did then i dont get it :S
Hi, thanks for the feedback. I guess I was a little bit short on the scene description. I have added some more info.
nice nice work! how did u figure all that out?
!Nice! Now we can make an analog picture.. in ... eh 3d... :) Impressive to see that this also works the way it 'should'. Done with cycles?
Done with cycles yes.
Nice experiment I love it. And will try to render it with another renderer (thea render).
Cool! There is probably room for some improvement by fine-adjusting the distance between the lens and the display. You might get it sharper. Takes a little time though, since you don't get the immediate feedback you would in the real world. :-)
Very nice! By the way, I forgot enabling smooth shading on the lens. I guess interpolated normals will give a sharper projection.
And with an animated helicopter that give nice results to me : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIzipLAJ85w&feature=player_embedded&hd=1
Hah! That was really cool! Next step: a red lens and a blue lens, and some 3d glasses :-)
Scary stuff :-)
