HMS Aiax

Description

It is a complete model of non- existing (although historically correct) english frigate HMS Aiax. File provided with render setup (on pressing F12 you should get precisely same results as visible on preview screen). It took me some time to complete it so I would be grateful if you can send me an info after using it just so I can take a look what you did. Pure curiosity and humble request, by no means "mandatory".

Here's WIP animation (in case you are curious):

Hope you like it and... Yarrr... ekhm... nice blendering.

Well done. I enjoyed your video as well as it gave me insight to your workflow. Usually when I download a model to investigate the artist's techniques, I have no clue how he/she built it. I hope you continue to post your WIP videos in the future. I had to mark this as a favorite. I used to live in Hawaii and I'd sail around the islands in a 21 foot sailboat anchoring in protective coves overnight when I could or pulling into a marina. There is only one thing better than sailing--I mean besides that; and that's flying (I was a commercial/instrument rated aerobatics pilot and also had my gliders license as well). Both are exhilarating and provide a peace within the soul.

You are very kind, thank you. Listening to your story I am getting envious. I am working with models of old sailships (my field is French pre- napoleonic navy) but I have never sailed one.

I've been a fan of this render since I first saw it as a competition submission for blenderguru. Really outstanding work. Thanks for sharing it!

I am honored you like it mate. That's my only way to say "thank you" to Blender community ( I do not have enough molah to support it other way). You (we) guys rock.

Question: Is there some significance to fact that you ship is towing a partially submerged long boat? I just curious if it was part of the story you are telling in the scene or perhaps I just missed the obvious.

Hi very realistic. I could not get the ocean to render though. I see somthing about ocean plugin. Which one is that?

R
rkgalery over 13 years ago

Ocean simulation is included into most Blender builts now- all you got to do is to turn it on in preferences.

thank you very much for sharing this. I'm a blender Noob and this model forced me to understand how the Ocean works. I'll never be able to create something like this, but seeing this will force me to at least create a detailed block and tackle object like you might find in an old barn. Anyway I thank you, I exported object and rendered it with Octane at DA http://pfrancke.deviantart.com/art/Aiax-354819858?ga_submit_new=10%253A1361111737

I assumed the longboat was in tow because battle was imminent. They'd put the captain's valuables in there so it won't get shot up. And also, this blend ROCKS!

Wow! It left me without words!! I am super super noob in blender, so I happily downloaded the file and tried to render it, but it brutally crashed after about 10 seconds (no error messages, the window just closed). I'm working with a Dell latitude windows 7 4 GB RAM 32 bit OS Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

Sorry for lack of responses guys- I've been rather busy those days. If any of you needs to contact me, I am usually on skype as rkgalery. Happy blending.
