Description
On a dark and stormy night after repeatedly failing to record a tutorial successfully, I thought it might be fun to take the Sintel model off [the DVD](http://www.blender3d.org/e-shop/product_info_n.php?products_id=120) and port the materials for Cycles. And so it was :)
That's all I did, so understand that this model and all it's textures (see below) are licensed under [Creative Commons CC BY 3.0](http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/) originally created by the Durian team working at the Blender Fountation for the Sintel Open Movie project.
The rig is a little wonky (missing most of it's controls) since it was created a while ago and the Blender API has changed a lot since then. I do plan to fix it up with the current Rigify, but not any time soon, so if you'd like to do that feel free.
Blender 2.65 doesn't have hair rendering support, so to get the hair to render in Cycles you'll need a recent build from either [graphicall](http://graphicall.org) or the [build bot](http://builder.blender.org), or simply 2.66 or later (once it comes out).
Now the textures for this model are a total of 260MB or so. Thus it's not included in this download and you need to download it separately from one of the links at the bottom. The textures are in a zip file, so to get it to work, simply make a folder anywhere you like, put the sintel_cycles.blend file in this folder and then create a folder in there called "textures" and unzip the textures.zip into that folder. So in your folder you should have the blend file and another folder called "textures" with all the images in there. It should look something like this: C:\anyfolder\sintel_cycles.blend C:\anyfolder\textures\someimages.jpg

This is really good : )
awesome +1
Thanks :) would anyone be interested in me fixing up the rig?
I would, cos Sintel is featuring in a trailer for my game design :)
I was wondering, for those of us too broke to afford the dvd, would it be possible to have a baby dragon for Cycles? I'm not sure how well it would work because of all the sculpted detail but if it did work it would be cool.
I can't see why it wouldn't work, perhaps someone will port it :P
that's great! thanks!:D
This is really good : )
i CANT PUT THAT IN TO THE PROGRAM THAT YOU CAN MOVE THAT PLEASE HELPPPP!!!!
100,000,000 samples? How good is your computer!?
Before tile rendering came along, I would set the sample count ridiculously high so that it would keep getting clearer and clearer before I stopped the render.
Dammit, you broke my dream :) -- Sent from my $400 netbook
How to get materials? I have everything in nodes, but images are missing. How to unpack them, or save?
You have to download the textures, then from inside the .blend, open File>External Data>Find Missing Files then open up the folder containing the textures and hit accept.
Thanks for answer ;-)
My 3 GB gpu runs out of memory trying to render that one.
i luv sintel movies and i'm try to this type of character going to modeling so i get reference..!!
Is there known issues with the shaders in 2.76 ? When I tried both render or interactive rendering (GPU or CPU) it stay stuck at "updating shader" ... nice work BTW ;)
beautiful
i can host for you just tell me what to do
"(thanks Marius Eckardt)" Yes thanks for the 100 Ko/sec to that take me âge to download the textures why don't use Mega its faster.
Do you know how to switch between IK and FK? I did not find how to switch in version 2.83.
