Do you know if this will work with the Blender Cycles Render Engine?
you have to set the material in emisson in cycles
I don't know. I'll try it.
It doesn't seem to work. You could modify the cycles lens flare at this link:http://www.blendswap.com/blends/view/27073 If you're interested, I can tell you how my flare works and how to modify the cycles flare. Just reply if you're interested.
JustJimAZ, I'm curious, I love lens flares, how does your flare work? I am learning to use the Blender Compositor, I just went through the Blender Guru tutorial "Introduction to the Compositor" ( http://www.blenderguru.com/videos/introduction-to-the-compositor ) The Blender Compositor is very familiar to me, it reminds me of Quartz Composer ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartz_Composer ) on the Mac.
Hello fellow lens flare lover! if you have downloaded the file then you have read the "how-to-use" instructions. Basically, the empty controller has a track to constraint with the "track to" object being a hidden empty located at the center of the scene. The controller then is parented to a single vertex with a halo material that has "flare" enabled. Also, the controller parents a line which, again, parents the hexagons and other shapes. In order to get the flare to "center" when the controller is moved to the center, I moved the controller back behind the "track to" empty. This was how I originally designed my lens flare. I have thought up a new way but have to work out all of the bugs.
it´s okay but why do you model it? If you take one vertice and activitate the flare effect in the halo settings you get the and MUCH better.
I model it because If you look at a real lens flare generated by the sun, you see a lot of artifacts(Polygons). You don't get that with pure halo/flare material settings. If you don't want the hexagons, simply activate layer 2 and disable layer 1 in the 3D viewport. Then you only have the halo vertex.
