Description
A Tyrannosaurus Rex that I modeled, rigged, and textured myself. The skin material was created by photographing pears and then putting the pieces together in Photoshop. The rig is not stellar, but it's serviceable and working. There's a walk cycle included. Enjoy!
Update: For some reason the walk cycle was not present in the original upload. This file now includes it.

Forgot to mention in the description: Be sure to turn the subsurf modifier back on before rendering. It's much easier to animate with it turned off, since it slows down your machine.
This is a very creative way of using pears—Thank you champy for the great work.
Thanks GreenTree23. The pears were also tasty, so they were twice useful!
can you take the background out? it's a great blend and i want to replace the background with a green screen.
Hi Middymatthew: The background pictured in the picture above is actually from a video still that I placed this model in during a motion tracking exercise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSi8_6XA9q4 and it is not included with the model. Every element in the model should be easily deletable. Thanks!
mt bom o modelo ___----_---
I have no idea what that means.
He wrote in portuguese. "Very good your model."
Cool model, i cant see it though when i open it, it shows as a regular start up file with a cube. Cool Model though!
Thanks! I just downloaded and opened it to check, and it opens right to the T-Rex for me. Maybe try your download again. Sorry you're having problems, and good luck!
This is absolutely awesome. Thanks so much for sharing it. It has inspired me to learn Blender! As a complete newbie, I am following the tutorials but would appreciate your help with some questions: 1. When I open your .blend I see the roar animation but how do I access the walk cycle? 2. When I open your .blend, it seems I am modifying your work directly. For example I can move vertices. I was expecting to be able to import your model more as a 'closed object' and work with it (eg. tell it to roar, tell it to walk) without fear of actually breaking the intricacies of the model itself. Does Blender not work like this? Thanks again for your contribution to the community! Regards, Richard.
Hi Richard, I just checked the version that I downloaded, and you're right: I don't see the walk cycle in there. I'll see what I can do about getting that fixed. In the meantime, it's not too difficult to just make one with a few tutorials. If you want to import the model into a new .blend, then just got to File>Append and select the object. Good luck!
Thanks for your response. I understand "it's not too difficult" for a man who can fashion a photo-realistic T-Rex out of a bunch of polygons and a bucket of pears, but it's like a mountain to climb for me! :) If you could find the time to dig up the walk cycle that'd be fantastic. I've spent a bit of time of BlendSwap since my original e-mail and this is one of the best models on here.
I love this. Thank you for sharing this. Something about the shape of the skull and the body makes him look a little bit goofy, but the quality of the textures and the rig are just awe-inspring. One problem I have though, is that the rig as it is is REALLY slow for me. I disabled the subdivsion modifier, etc. but I just can't get it to respond quickly. Animating is possible but kind of "retro", if you will, because everything responds very slowly to changes.
First of all, thanks for downloading and taking the time to comment. The aesthetics of the model are definitely my own interp. I can't claim perfect proportional accuracy because I just drew this thing from my mind. I didn't employ any references, so I'm sorry if it doesn't quite satisfy, but it's just sorta how I envision a T-Rex. The only thing I can think of as far as the speed goes is that this is a relatively high-poly model. It's not really made for placement in a game or anything like that, so I apologize for that, but it's probably just going to be slow until computers catch up a bit more. Good luck with it, though!
Thanks for the reply! If you did all this without any reference then I would say it's an incredible job. I will probably use the T-Rex as part of an animation project later this year and my first tests looked pretty good. I still don't know why the rig responds so sluggishly, however. I don't think it's the poly count. But anyway, it works and it's the best rigged and textured T-Rex blend available, for sure. Once again thanks for your amazing work.
Looking forward to seeing what you do!
Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4VqCg4rdatI A smaller appearance of the T-Rex than I intended, but it might not be the last. ;)
Very nice, almost photo-realistic. Reminds me of Jurassic Park. Using pears was very creative. Very good job
Thanks! I hope you enjoy using it.
this beautifull 3d
Thanks! I'd love to see anything you end up using it for.
PEARS!!!! YOU HAVE SOME MAD SKILLS!!!
Thanks!
Man please help ,i can't download it !! :( it starts then fails everytime :/
Sorry, that sounds like a problem with the site, not the model. I hope it gets working again, soon. Good luck!
Hello! it works now :) thanks! :)
Oh my god!! i love it!!! Fantastic job!! the best T-rex ever!! THANKS!
Thanks! I hope we get to see what you do with it.
Hello! done! :) here's the link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFwH7z2PLdk Thanks again for that great model! :)
Cool! Thanks for posting your work!
I can't animate it. The rig dosen't respond to anything
MovieMaker: Not sure where you're at as far as experience with Blender, Hardware you're using, or what you've tried. Do you have the armature selected, and are you in Pose mode? The rig responds properly when those criteria are met. It responds very slowly on older machines unless you turn the subsurf invisible on the main mesh, but it will still respond. Good luck!
WOW!!! awesome job!!! do you think you have time to help me out with my character? i need a model made, im new on the request list (shadow the dragoness) id love to have a beutiful and realistic like model but haave a very hard time doing it myself :( but if you cant i understand.
Hi ShadowCrystol, Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't think I'd be able to give your project enough time to get anywhere with it. Thanks for asking, though!
This is a great model! If you have time, check out the video I made with it youtube(dot)com/watch?v=QEq2EuBvY_A&feature=youtu.be
