This is a test scene where I followed Andrew Price. I used cycles to render this image.
Perhaps the illumination needs some improvement. The plates look a complete cylinder, almost no separation between each other. At least that is my impression. But, in general, it is a good design and deserves to be worked a little more. Regards.
And a little bit of volumetric light would be good. I am planning it.
I think some post-processing may be in order.
