Helicopter Rig

Description

I made a animation back in 2012, most of the work went into making the helicopter rig. The rig should work 100% like a real helicopter, I did a lot of tweaking and brain squeezing to make this rig work, so I hope you can have some fun with it:) There is not much to say about the blend file, the rig control is positioned above the main rotors. I dint really name the objects properly when I made it, so just ignore the bad names:) The blend file doesn't contains any traces of the animation, so its only the "duckcopter" in the blend file:3 Video link for the animation:

Leave a comment if you got something on your mind and happy blending:p

I always knew they had a secret life! :3 It looks awesome, how long did it take to render with the water? :o

Thanks:) I wrote it in the video instructions on Youtube:p The whole animation was rendered in: 2 days, 22 hours and 15 min (Fluid baking: 6 hours and 6 min)

Marvelous work. Using my PC this render would take, aproximately...hmmm...five years as long as everything goes right.

woooooooooooow man !!!! can you make us a tutorial please this is really exuting

H
Heinzelnisse almost 13 years ago

Thanks:) I'm afraid I have to disappoint you, don't really make tutorials:( You should begin with creating simple rigs, and as your skillz increases you will soon be able to make these rigs on your own. It is not really that hard when you get the hang of it:3

Unless I am mistaken the tail rotor is an anti-torque rotor pushing in the opposite direction to the rotation of the main blade. It is rotating the wrong way for the side that it is on in the video. In real life it would probably be on the other side. The tail rotor also rotates much faster than the main rotor. I love the model though and the rigging of the main rotor.

I think you are right about the rotors, the two small stabilizing blades on top is also wrong if you look at them in the video. They should be flipped 180 degrees:3 I think I corrected them in the .blend file:p Mabye I should have used drivers to control the RPM, this was my first "real" animation so I did a lot of mistakes, thanks for the feedback:)

glad someone take this up. I integrated this flying cutey in a music video i am working on (all due credits included of course!). They contrast very well in the .. hrm... "matcho" aspect of the animation:D But i can't find a way to get the rear rotor to spin along with the main one. i'm just starting to get out of my n00b cocoon so i'm probably missing something. but a little hint would be very wellcome! :) GREAT WORK and many thanks however!

ha! sometimes one just needs to ask the question to find an answer :) i solved it by applying a copyrotation constraint on the bone connecting the two blade bones, copying the roation of the spinning driver!!! Yuhuu!! :D I'll notify you (and all the other blendswappers involved) of the result as soon as i'm done (might take a little while)... this is my first try at multi scene video, so don't expect too much :D <3 CHEERS!

u know what sucks about this animation, it took 2 days to render,, amin what the hell... dude you should upgrade to i7 intel 32GB RAM, 4 Ghz, and a Nvidia GTX GPU, only will it render for only 5 hours or 2 but two days for a short animation like that,,,, not cool but anyway i lyk yo animation, it can act as an advertisement on something
