Planet Generator

Description

Something I have been wanting to do for awhile. This one comes with some low res images. Im sure this could be modified to make rock type planets and Ice planets.

The results are much better with the high res images I have and I would post it but its 42 Mb. I will post a half size version. Really, all you need is the main texture. The beaches and water wont change much with the larger images. The ice caps get split by water sometimes and Im working on that.

Be gentle with the beach slider, it doesnt take much for that option to start to look bad.

Here is the high res texture used in the example images:

Plug that into the Land Color slot

Hi Res cloud maps from NASA:

What version are you using? It seems to be working fine for me with 2.7

2.69 I believe. There are shaders in this file that didnt exist with 2.65. Why have you not upgraded?

Outstanding! Works amazing well. Getting great results so far. You may want to include a description of how to get back to the sliders. Took me some time to figure out how to get that view back.

Hey man, is there a way to project the surface on a plane? like a world map

You've probably already figured this out, but if not this may be helpful. In any case it may be helpful for others coming across this in the future. First you want to set the planet objects shader to two-sided or flip the normals such that the texture can be seen from inside the object. Next create a new camera in the center of the sphere and set it up as a panoramic camera. For most mapping purposes you'll want to create an equirectangular panorama(this can be converted to a wide variety of projections using FlexProjector or G.Projector, which are available free of charge, just google). Set that up as your render camera and either replace the diffuse shader with an emissive shader or set up a point light in the center of the sphere. Render, and Bob's yer uncle.
