Shipyard

Description

This is a model, build with the shipyard 0.7 .blend from blendswap.com:

Some parts are modified or extended. The lighting of the trusters ([CameraPerspRear]), of the cannons and the the windows is done with the compositor.

What do you think about it? Any suggestions? :-)

Lighting, please :P

Lighting is there!? Or what do you mean with Lighting exactly? :)

We realize there is not much light in space, but you have to look very close to see the ship. You may want to add some environment or bounce lighting to boost visibility :D

Lighting as in "I want to see the ship" LOL As Metalix said, we know there's no light in space like we have in our daily lives but look at any Sci-Fi movie or artist rendering, they have some type of lighting added for the sake of the viewer. Check out Andrew Price's tutorial on the asteroid field and you'll see. ;)

I inceased the lighting from .5 to 1 and add enviromental lighting (.2 add white). Is this better?

Not really, watch some Star Treck stuff and how they light their scenes. Also the Blender starfield lacks the cool look, NASA has a lot of space images than can work a lot better and that are licensed public domain :)

Thanks for the advice. I will do another render with another, real background. But mainly, I won't build a real scene, it's just a demo background. Just to have not a plain white background. ;-) The model isn't for any blender scene. I'll mainly will use it as an destroyer in a game, which we're developing. :-) What's your opinion about the model itself?

Thanks for your suggestions. I added a background and lighten the material a bit :-)

sry, added my comment before i've seen your image :-) (iphone surfing) :-) you can fix the lightingbug by disabling the compositor in the rendersettings. :-) or try to tweak the compositing for the lighter material :-)

Well it's definitely improving :D But with a background as light as that my eyes almost expect a lens flare. Try adding some background bleed or chromatic aberration and see how that looks :D

That new render is looking awesome :) some more light interactions and contrast with the sun lamp and you'll have a ready for cinema shot ;)

@Metalix: Do you have a good tutorial or suggestion for a good looking lens flare effekt? @Jordan: Your not the first one who said this to me. ^^ But if you take a look at the trusters, those feeling is mostly gone. ^^

@Ionic None on my site, there is plenty on blender guru You'll want to have either a subtle broken flare as your looking almost directly at the bright spot (try holding a pencil up to the sun and take a photo of it) Or perhaps have the lens flare coming up from just under the ship with a bit of bleed - blur the ship at the point where the lens flare is so it kinda melts into the background Hope this helps :D

Hi Metalix, thanks for your comments. I was busy the last days (IT Business Manager Training.... puh...). It would be nice if you could sent me the blend. Maybe I could include some parts of it into my revamped Compositor Nodes. :-) I'm currently at some extensions to my compositor settings. And I'm going to improve some of the meshes of the modelparts itself. I'll reupload it during the next week.

This is cool! for a reference how big exactly this ship is? and how many people optimally can fit in?
